Hand-sewn from reclaimed and new denim, one seam at a time. No two are exactly alike — and if you'd like, one can be made from a piece of clothing that already means something to you.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind — no two whales are exactly alike.
Four whales, four personalities — each one hand-sewn from reclaimed denim, and each one carrying its own small story.
An outgrown pair of jeans. A father's shirt. A dress from a summer you don't want to forget. Send us the fabric, and we'll turn it into a whale that keeps the story alive.
Indigo Pod is handmade by William Mellette, a Brooklyn and Los Angeles based Costume Designer and IATSE Local 829 member whose work spans theater, film, and TV — including Netflix's Emmy-winning Dick Johnson Is Dead, the La Jolla Playhouse, the NY Fringe Festival, various Broadway shows and national tours.
His love of whales and dolphins goes back to early childhood, long before any of that — some of his first memories are of being captivated by them, and that fascination never really faded.
Years spent building characters through fabric led naturally here. Each whale is stitched from reclaimed and new denim and given a name and a story — Half Moon the Dreamer, Baby the Curious One, Echo the Gentle Giant, Shadow the Guardian — the same instinct William once brought to the stage, now sewn into something small enough to hold.
